Review from Var Matin – JS Bach All Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin

April 9, 2018 by Admin

Musical evening under the sign of grace

Two hours ten of happiness. It could be the spirit of the musical evening held in the Chapelle des Pénitents, in Guillaume Sutre’s company.
No seat was vacant to listen to Sutre who was for twenty years the first violin of the quartet Ysaÿe quartet.
The musician has dominated with his sumptuous bow the integral of JS BAch Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.
Guillaume Sutre has demonstrated all the technical and emotional mastery that these masterworks require, dazzling harmonic richness that testify
of Johann Sebastian Bach’s genius.
They have taken on their full dimension in the proximity and intimity that the little chapel offers.
A great performance that has long been applauded by the public in a standing ovation.
A very beautiful musical evening among the series masterfully programmed by the artistic director Philippe Depetris.

ConcertoNet.com Review by Simon Corley.

“…Défendues par des musiciens aussi excellents que passionnés, ces quatre œuvres méritaient assurément d’être ainsi remises en valeur.”

Radio Klara Top 10

January 23, 2016 by Admin

Top 10 for the CD Woelfl on Radio Klara (Belgium) this week!

Klara’s verdict

The salon music of Joseph Woelfl from the early years of the 19th century deserves your full attention. It is literally situated between the late Mozart and the early Beethoven. The much too soon died Woelfl – he was just under 40.

… The three sonatas on this album saw the light in Paris. They sound endearing as salon music should be, but you still are having more backbone, content and playful expressiveness than the average chamber music from that era. It is a pleasure to play this unpretentious harp-violin-piano music in foreground or background in the living room to hear whirling. Thanks to three experienced musicians: the Belgian pianist Steven Vanhauwaert, Korean harpist Kyunghee Kim Sutre and French violinist Guillaume Sutre.
